About MTS Sussex

MTS Sussex, motorcycle training school in Sussex and Surrey

MTS Sussex is a family-run motorcycle training school that has been operating since 2012 in the south-east of England. Its activity focuses on training motorcyclists of all levels, from those who have never been on a motorcycle to those who already have a licence and are looking to regain confidence or improve their riding. The school provides training in Sussex and Surrey, with a presence in towns such as Crawley, East Grinstead, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill.

The team is made up of DVSA-approved instructors, both men and women, and the school highlights that it maintains a maximum ratio of two students per instructor to guarantee personalised attention.

Training programmes for every stage

The course catalogue covers the complete progression of the British motorcyclist:

  • Taster session: a first contact with the motorcycle in a safe and relaxed environment, designed for those who want to try before committing to a CBT or a full licence course.
  • CBT (Compulsory Basic Training): mandatory basic training to learn the essential skills and knowledge needed to ride safely on the road. Available from age 16.
  • Full licence: includes the A1 (from age 17), A2 (from age 19) and DAS or Direct Access (from age 24, or after two years with an A2) categories.
  • Back to Biking (refresher): sessions for licensed riders who have been away from riding for a while and want to regain their skills and confidence.
  • No 'L's Day: a day exclusive to the school for those who have just passed and want to ride accompanied before going out on their own.

The school also offers individual lessons and gift vouchers valid for twelve months, redeemable for various courses and experiences.

Facilities and training locations

MTS Sussex distinguishes between its training centres and its registered address. CBT sessions and taster practice take place at its own facilities in Crawley and East Grinstead, while full licence courses run throughout the week from the Hassocks training centre. The Burgess Hill site, in Ditchling, is listed as the registered address and not as a CBT centre.

The school provides motorcycles, helmets, jackets and gloves at no extra cost to students.

Requirements and conditions for students

To complete any training with MTS Sussex, you must be able to communicate in English and have a basic knowledge of the Highway Code. Appropriate clothing and footwear are also required, details of which are included in the booking confirmation. The school offers free assessments so that each student only books the training they need. All prices include current VAT.

Student reviews

The website itself includes testimonials from riders who trained with the school. One of them mentions passing the A2 licence first time after completing the CBT and the DAS course, and highlights the work of instructor Max. Another values the patience and clarity of instructor Holland during the CBT, and a third thanks Holland, Rick and especially Neil for their support in passing the test.
