About Cutting Edge Skirting
Cutting Edge Skirting: in-house manufacturing of MDF skirting boards and mouldings
Cutting Edge Skirting is a British manufacturer specialising in MDF skirting boards, architraves and wall panelling. The company presents itself as a direct manufacturer, not a reseller: every piece is machined to order in its own West Midlands factory and dispatched from there to the customer. Founded in 2013, it operates with a team that has over one hundred years of combined experience in the manufacture of skirting boards and architraves.
Range of mouldings and profiles
The range covers several product families. In skirting boards, profiles are offered from the Best Sellers, Traditional and Modern lines, with models such as Torus, Ogee, Regency, Single Square Groove, Chamfer 2x2mm, Single V Groove and 2 Step, available in various heights. The company sells architraves to match each skirting profile for framing doors and windows, MDF wall panelling and decorative wall mouldings, as well as other mouldings such as dado rails, window boards, plinth blocks, architrave blocks and door lining sets.
Material and manufacturing process
All production starts from high-density moisture-resistant MDF board (MR MDF), which the company describes as the highest density available. According to its explanation, this material produces a smoother cut surface when profiled, giving a superior finish compared to other MDF skirting boards. The process begins with cutting strips from raw boards, which are then profiled to the chosen design. Unprimed pieces pass through a single-head sander that penetrates the profiled part to leave the surface ready. For primed orders, the boards pass through a vacuum coating machine that ensures complete primer coverage, something that, according to the company, is not achieved with manual spraying, especially on grooved profiles. After drying on a heated rack, the pieces go through a five-head sander: two large top heads rotating in opposite directions, two smaller side heads for the edges and a profile sander. The result is pieces primed and sanded twice, manufactured with precise repeatable measurements.
Made-to-order manufacturing and direct purchase
The company produces each order to the requested height, thickness, length and finish, without starting from standard lengths or leftover offcuts. As no builders' merchant is involved, it offers direct factory prices and volume discounts: the site indicated promotional codes of 5% for orders over £500, 7.5% over £1,000 and 10% from £1,500. The minimum order including VAT is £48. The company serves both installation professionals and homeowners, and offers free samples to check the profile before buying.
Delivery and logistics
Cutting Edge Skirting has its own fleet to deliver most orders in England and Wales, with drivers who know how to handle long pieces. For some areas of Scotland and for shipments that do not fit on its own routes, it uses trusted independent couriers. The company states that it can deliver anywhere in the country in as little as two days, with careful packaging for transport and order tracking.
Family structure and production control
The company describes itself as a family business based in the West Midlands. Sales office, manufacturing plant, quality control and dispatch department all operate from the same site, with no third parties involved. According to its presentation, this translates into faster communication, better quality control, shorter lead times, expert technical advice and complete accountability for the order. The company states that it invests continuously in machinery and technology to improve the efficiency and precision of its profiles.
