Panelling Direct

Wood and MDF wall panels manufactured in the UK

Panelling Direct is a British supplier of decorative wall panels and wood and MDF cladding, aimed at both interior design and DIY projects as well as commercial applications. The company presents itself as one of the UK's top-rated suppliers in its segment and manufactures its products in the country with selected materials. Its catalogue combines modern and traditional style panels, and includes cut-to-size options and next-day delivery for a wide range of wood and MDF panels.

Panel kits and installation systems

The main offering is organised into wall panel kits, including the bespoke Shaker kit, the DIY wainscoting kit, the dado wall panelling kit, the shiplap kit and the primed Kanso kit. These kits are designed to simplify installation as a DIY project, especially when using no-nails adhesives and cut-to-size panels. The company provides a detailed instruction manual with each kit and has a video tutorial, as well as a step-by-step guide on the main ways to install panels.

Styles and finishes available

The catalogue is organised by decorative styles. Among the most popular are tongue & groove, with clean vertical lines that help ceilings feel taller; Shaker style, with framed panels for a classic, elegant look; wainscoting, a simple and affordable option to add character; and ribbed and fluted panels, with grooves that create a modern, striking effect. The company also offers 3D effect panels, acoustic panels, V-groove panels, bead & butt, wood and MDF slats, and wood-effect panels. MDF panels can be ordered with a primed surface, ready to paint, and are customisable to suit any colour scheme.

Applications by room and specific uses

The collection includes options designed to enhance interior decor by adding texture, depth, character and a contemporary style. The catalogue is organised by room: bedroom, kitchen, living room, bathroom, office, nursery, hallway & stairs, and exterior. For high-traffic areas such as staircases and hallways, the company recommends wainscoting, which protects the wall from scuffs and usually covers the bottom half of the wall; specifically, it mentions its Regal Wainscoting Wall Panelling model. It also sells moisture-resistant panels for rooms with high humidity levels, such as bathrooms, although it advises against installing panels in wet areas such as showers. It also offers exterior panels, shed cladding, fascias and accessories such as dado rails, mouldings, skirting and architraves.

Materials and technical considerations

The company works with natural wood, ideal for authentic grain textures and durability, and with medium-density fibreboard (MDF), a more economical option. MDF is an engineered wood product made from wood fibres, wax and resin that imitates traditional materials; according to the company, high-quality MDF is resistant to warping and has a smooth, uniform surface, which allows defects such as dents and stains to be covered and a durable finish to be achieved at lower cost. For cutting MDF strips or panels, the company recommends using respiratory protection due to the fine dust. It also advises preparing surfaces well before installing, sanding walls smooth and ensuring they are completely dry and free of grease. There is no need to hire a carpenter to measure walls: a tape measure is enough, measuring from the floor or skirting board to the ceiling and checking the measurement before placing the order.
