About British Gas Business
British Gas Business, energy supply for businesses in the United Kingdom
British Gas Business is the gas and electricity supply division for the UK business sector of the Centrica group. The company presents itself as the largest energy supplier for businesses in the United Kingdom and claims to serve more than 350,000 businesses, offering gas and electricity contracts, digital management tools and renewable energy services.
Integration of the British Gas Plus portfolio
The company has transferred and upgraded all British Gas Plus accounts to its main platform. Customers from that product retain access to their old online account to view bills prior to March 2025 and their energy consumption, while ordinary management is now done in the new account. The company states that prices and agreed terms have not changed with the switch.
The migration expands the available payment methods: the original British Gas Plus contract required variable Direct Debit, while the new account accepts variable or fixed Direct Debit, cash, card and bank transfer. It also includes telephone support, which was absent in the previous model that was exclusively online. The company continues to send communications by email and warns that some may still be received by post.
Billing, payments and consumption data
Billing remains monthly. The first bill of the new account includes the balance transferred from British Gas Plus and the energy consumed since the last bill of the previous product. Customers with a credit balance retain that credit in the new account. Direct Debit is migrated automatically once the final bill of the old contract is paid, and the new account number appears as a reference on the bank statement.
The Energy360® DataView platform is offered free of charge to migrated customers. It allows tracking electricity consumption in half-hour intervals and visualising usage patterns to identify potential savings. Half-hourly consumption data remains accessible from the online account, and the company offers a chat channel to request specific information about the old British Gas Plus account.
Renewable energy and flexible contracts
British Gas Plus customers with a fixed price plan retain the backing of Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) for 100% of the electricity supplied, generated in the UK. The company applies a similar criterion to new fixed tariffs, which it markets as Zero Carbon and backs with renewable origin guarantees and nuclear declarations during the term of the contract. It also offers 100% renewable electricity options, commercial solar solutions and Smart Export Guarantee services.
For organisations with consumption above 1 GW per month, the company designs flexible gas and electricity contracts aimed at managing market exposure, reducing risk and building a tailored energy strategy.
History and group
British Gas is part of Centrica plc and traces its origin back to 1815, when it was established as the country's first utility company. The company claims more than 200 years of brand history and links its activity to sports sponsorship agreements with Team GB and ParalympicsGB, as well as initiatives aimed at reducing emissions in the business sector.
