Dawsons Department Store

Dawsons Department Store: family business in Clitheroe specialising in cookware, textiles and garden

Dawsons Department Store is a family-owned business that originally opened in the centre of Clitheroe, in the Ribble Valley (Lancashire). It began as an ironmonger and fireplace merchant serving local farmers and over time has become, according to its own presentation, the leading independent houseware store in the area.

The company combines a physical store in Clitheroe with several specialised online retail sites. The store displays a selection of the products also offered online, along with many other brands and product lines that do not appear in the digital shops. The company notes that not all items listed online are available to view in store and recommends calling ahead if you wish to examine a specific product.

Departments and product categories

The in-store offering is organised into several departments: cookware, bed linen, hardware and paint, giftware, barbecues, garden furniture, handbags and luggage.

Specialised online shops

Since 2004 the company has operated online and maintains several specialised sites that sell a wide range of brands in specific sectors, with home delivery and, in many cases, next working day shipping.

• BBQWorld: top brand barbecues such as Weber, Napoleon, Outback, Ooni, Gozney and Broil King, among others. The Clitheroe showroom opens during the main summer months.
• JustLinen: wide range of bed linen, duvets, pillows and curtains from brands such as Dorma, Sheridan, Sanderson and V & A, among others. Part of the bed linen range is available in both stores, although not the entire range can be viewed in the store.
• eCookshop: cookware and tableware from brands such as Le Creuset, KitchenAid, Denby and Villeroy & Boch. The Clitheroe store stands out, according to the company, for a wide selection of cookware and bakeware larger than the online offering.
• Garden Furniture World: the company presents itself as one of the largest UK retailers of Hartman and Kettler garden furniture.
• Christmas At Dawsons: site specialising in the Lemax Christmas Village and Kaemingk artificial Christmas trees.

Training activities and events

The company organises events and activities, including a certified Weber barbecue course.
