Thorpe Park
Chertsey theme park with roller coasters, water rides, Fright Nights, and accommodations at Thorpe Shark Cabins.
About Thorpe Park
Thorpe Park opened in 1979 on a former gravel pit in Chertsey, Surrey. Since then, it has developed a collection of roller coasters, water rides, and other attractions totaling more than twenty-five rides and attractions. Its proximity to London makes it an option for a day trip or a stay with accommodations within the resort.
The roller coasters offer different experiences of speed, height, and turns. Hyperia reaches 236 feet and speeds above eighty miles per hour; Stealth launches from zero to eighty miles per hour in under two seconds. Colossus incorporates ten inversions, and Nemesis Inferno uses an inverted design, with riders suspended beneath the track.
Water changes the experience on Tidal Wave, Depth Charge, and Storm Surge. The latter combines spinning with a 64-foot descent. Vortex adds rotating and swinging movements. Height and access requirements apply to individual rides, so choosing a route also depends on who is in the group and which experiences they want to share.
The park’s history remains in some transformed attractions. Space Station Zero, its first roller coaster, opened in 1984 and continues as Flying Fish. X: No Way Out, introduced in 1996, later became The Walking Dead: The Ride. These adaptations show how spaces have changed themes without the entire visit depending on new installations.
Fright Nights adds a Halloween program with scare mazes, shows, and themed zones. Event tickets, VIP experiences, and other formats have their own terms. Annual passes support other visit patterns, while Fastrack and digital photography are additional services within trip planning.
Thorpe Shark Cabins provides accommodations and themed rooms beside the park. Stay packages combine a night with park admission, breakfast, and benefits depending on the booking. The official app includes a map and wait times; restaurants, shops, and accessibility services complete a day that requires balancing walks, lines, and breaks.
The entrance is on Staines Road, Chertsey, KT16 8PN. Drivers arrive from M25 Junctions 11 or 13 via the A320, with paid parking. Trains from London Waterloo to Staines connect with the 950 bus when the park is open. The bus and rail journey have their own payment arrangements, rather than an Oyster card necessarily covering the whole outing.
Opening dates and hours follow a seasonal calendar. Dated admission, ride access requirements, and accommodation bookings organize different experiences. Thorpe Park allows intense rides, water attractions, and breaks to be combined, with the option of extending the visit without leaving the resort at the end of the day.
