About The Mountain Company
The Mountain Company focuses on the Himalaya and Karakoram from a base in Dartmoor, Devon. Roland Hunter founded the company in 2004 and has completed many of the routes it organizes. Nepal, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, and Myanmar define its operating area, a focused selection that supports knowledge of trails, accommodations, and travel conditions.
Walking trips offer different ways to spend the night. Camping programs venture into remote regions; those using local guesthouses or lodges follow other routes and provide a different level of comfort. In Nepal, the selection includes the Everest, Annapurna, Manaslu, and Langtang regions. Accommodation type and difficulty help place each departure in context before choosing it.
The Great Himalaya Trail provides multi-stage mountain journeys, including Dolpo–Jomsom, Kanchenjunga–Makalu, and Makalu–Everest. Far West Nepal Exploratory GHT starts in Simikot and follows valleys toward the Tibetan border at Hilsa. Its description identifies it as exploratory: flexibility and a willingness to walk in remote areas are part of that itinerary’s approach.
In Bhutan, Lunana Snowman crosses numerous high passes and isolated regions. In Pakistan, Nanga Parbat Circuit draws on the company’s reconnaissance and previous trips; Snow Lake and Hispar La are among the expeditions developed over its history. These demanding options differ from cultural tours that use hotels and focus on sightseeing and heritage.
Mountaineering adds Nepal expeditions such as Saribung, Mera Peak, and Dhampus Peak. Trip descriptions and the grading system explain suitability, while the information center covers season, clothing, equipment, and preparation. A consultation provides an opportunity to discuss the trip with the team and connect a participant’s experience with the planned program.
The company organizes fixed-departure groups as well as customized private itineraries. It serves travelers from different countries and presents prices in several currencies. Reservations, payments, and single supplements are explained separately from international-flight information, allowing the land program and arrival at the destination to be organized clearly.
Its responsible-tourism policy includes International Porter Protection Group guidelines and participation in initiatives linked to AITO and the Great Himalaya Trail. From Westcott Farm in Chagford, the team combines administration with advice about terrain and accommodations. The specialty is choosing a mountain route with enough context to understand its demands and how it unfolds.
