The Visit Vet

The Visit Vet: mobile veterinary service at home in Carlisle, Gretna and Annan

The Visit Vet is a mobile veterinary clinic that provides home visits in Carlisle, Gretna and Annan. It presents itself as Cumbria's first dedicated mobile veterinary practice, operating since November 2020. Its approach is to bring the consultation to the animal's own space to reduce the stress associated with transport and waiting at the clinic, a need that, according to its founder, particularly affects cats and nervous dogs.

Services and home visits

The company offers home visits for companion animals of all breeds. The service includes veterinary consultations equivalent to those of a conventional clinic and a wide range of diagnostic tests carried out in the home. When the animal's condition requires additional equipment or specialists, the patient is referred for further tests. Surgery and emergency care are covered by Craig Robinson Vets in Carlisle.

In addition to one-off consultations, The Visit Vet offers pet health plans aimed at ongoing monitoring of animals.

Opening hours and availability

The mobile veterinary advice service is available Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 19:00 and on Saturdays from 8:30 to 12:00. Consultations take place in specific time slots: Monday and Tuesday from 8:00 to 20:00, and Wednesday to Friday from 8:00 to 16:00. The company states that it provides 24-hour emergency cover, seven days a week.

Professional background

Liz Shepherd, a vet in mixed practice since 1997, leads the project. With 27 years of experience in the profession, she decided to focus her work on home visits after finding that many of her patients became distressed at the clinic. The company presents itself as Cumbria's first mobile veterinary service.

Coverage area

The work is concentrated in Carlisle and Annandale, with service in the towns of Carlisle, Gretna and Annan. The company has been operating since November 2020 and cares for all kinds of companion animals.
