About Your Heart Scan
Your Heart Scan: private cardiac diagnostics in Burton on Trent and Leicester
Your Heart Scan is a British private clinic specialising in cardiac diagnostic tests that does not require a prior GP referral or impose waiting lists. Founded by Claire and Riaan Nieuwoudt, both Advanced Cardiac Physiologists with decades of experience in the NHS, private practice and UK cardiac centres, the company was created to avoid the usual delays in accessing this type of scan. The founding team is completed by Abby Litting, with business experience across several sectors.
Cardiac tests and catalogue prices
The clinic offers five main tests, performed by Advanced Cardiac Physiologists and internally reviewed by a second specialist. The published catalogue includes:
- Echocardiogram: detailed ultrasound of the structure and function of the heart, from £295; with additional Consultant Cardiologist review, from £395.
- Electrocardiogram (ECG): recording of the heart's electrical activity, about 15 minutes, for £80, with results included.
- Carotid Ultrasound: scan of the arteries in the neck that supply blood to the brain, indicated in cases of stroke risk or a family history of cardiovascular disease, for £150.
- Ambulatory ECG Monitoring: continuous recording of heart rhythm from 24 hours to 7 days, from £265, with different durations available.
- 24-hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring: portable recording of blood pressure throughout the day and night, for £150.
There are more than ten package combinations. The most requested, according to the clinic, is the combined echocardiogram and ECG package for £350, which saves £25 compared to booking them separately.
Appointment process and results
Patients can book online without needing to consult their GP first. The visit lasts between 30 and 45 minutes; the combined package requires approximately one hour. The data is analysed after the appointment and reviewed by a second Advanced Cardiac Physiologist; if the Consultant Cardiologist review is purchased, this is carried out remotely. The detailed report is sent by email to the patient and their GP within four working days. The clinic also accepts direct referrals from GPs and specialists, both NHS and private, and communicates the results to the referring professional within the same timeframe.
Professional team and patient preferences
The scans are performed by highly specialised Advanced Cardiac Physiologists, with both male and female professionals available; patients can state their preference when booking. The Consultant Cardiologist review of the echocardiogram has an additional cost of £100. The clinic is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Preparation and coverage
No special preparation is required: you can eat, drink and take your usual medication. For the ECG, you are asked to avoid oils or creams on the chest that morning and to bring your weight, height and a list of current medications. The clinic accepts patients with Vitality private health insurance, who must first obtain a pre-authorisation code from the insurer; billing is handled directly. It also offers cardiac screening programmes for companies and organisations of any size, with flexible packages tailored to each need.
Two locations in England
