The Strap Tailor is a British workshop founded in 2017 by David that is dedicated to the handmade manufacture of watch straps. The company works with selected leathers from around the world and combines traditional leatherworking techniques with contemporary technical materials. Its catalogue includes both ready-to-wear straps and made-to-measure options, and since its creation it has sold to more than 80,000 customers worldwide.

Ready-to-wear leather straps

The collection of ready-to-wear leather straps covers a variety of leathers and finishes. Among the available options are calfskin, ostrich, embossed crocodile, suede and nubuck, cordovan, goatskin, embossed python and pig skin. Omega deployant-compatible straps are also offered. The catalogue includes rubber straps, among them the AquaFlex, presented as a rubber strap designed to complement a wide range of watches and offer durability and comfort in all weather conditions. In metal, the company sells a Milanese mesh stainless steel watch strap, described as timeless and refined, combining modern craftsmanship with a heritage design. Apple Watch straps are also sold.

Custom design and artisan process

The company offers customers a 3D design tool that allows them to create a unique design and view it in real time. The manufacturing process for a made-to-measure strap consists of nine stages: selecting the leather, cutting, skiving to achieve the right thickness, internal reinforcement with Velodon and hypoallergenic Haas Zermatt lining, assembly with high-quality leather glue, perforating with marking irons, hand sewing using the traditional saddle stitch technique, sanding the edges, finishing with edge folding and trimming, and painting the edges with three coats. According to the company, the full process requires approximately three hours of work per strap.

Alongside the straps, The Strap Tailor sells a range of accessories and tools that includes watch cases and storage, belts, buckles, leather care products, quick release pins and tools. It also offers gift cards.
