Brand history

The company was founded in Bristol in 1896 by William Joseph Horwood, with the aim of becoming a supplier of quality kitchenware. By 1900, it was already selling a range of homeware to hardware stores in and around Bristol; products were made in Birmingham and the first catalogues included cake tins, graters and steaming pots. In its early days, Judge cookware was made from enamel-coated metal, suited to the demands of the utilitarian kitchen of the time.

By the 1930s, the firm had expanded its catalogue to 100 items and had become the leading cookware brand in the United Kingdom, establishing itself as a trusted household name. During the Second World War, despite the demand for metal for machinery manufacturing, the brand's popularity allowed production and sale of Judge kitchenware to continue; however, three of its four warehouses were destroyed in bombing. After the war, the company recovered and continued its activity.

Guarantee and distribution

Judge offers a 25-year guarantee on its core lines, a fact the brand highlights as a sign of confidence. Distribution is handled by Horwood Homewares, which markets the products in the United Kingdom and in international markets. The brand presents itself as a reliable kitchenware supplier for everyday use, with a reputation built over more than a century.
