About Liquid Asset Partners
Liquid Asset Partners: Scotch whisky cask brokerage for private investors
Liquid Asset Partners is a Scotch whisky cask brokerage firm based in Brentwood, Essex (United Kingdom). It presents itself as a director-led company with industry experience, guiding private clients through the acquisition and management of carefully selected Scotch whisky casks. Its approach combines industry experience, ownership documentation and commercial exit planning.
The firm reports over 200 private clients, more than £5 million in casks under management and over 40 years of combined experience. On Trustpilot it holds a rating of 4.5 out of 5.
A method built on acquisition, management and exit
Liquid Asset Partners maintains that it does not simply present individual casks based on the prestige of a distillery or a speculative growth percentage. Each opportunity is assessed on its own merits and on how it fits the portfolio it is intended for. Before recommending a cask, the firm analyses factors that influence its quality, its trade relevance and its potential for future sale:
- Acquisition: purchase price, distillery, spirit quality and cask age.
- Liquid: remaining litres of alcohol, strength and expected bottle yield.
- Market: current and potential trade demand, resale and bottling routes.
- Fit: portfolio diversification and intended holding period.
Portfolio construction and exit planning
Recommendations take into account the client's objectives, timescale, budget and existing holdings, rather than relying on a single distillery or cask type. The firm states that potential resale routes are considered before recommending an acquisition, and mentions among them private collectors, brokers, the wider trade and independent bottlers.
The working process is described in six stages: understanding the client, defining the portfolio strategy, sourcing and analysing suitable stock, completing ownership and documentation, reviewing and managing the portfolio, and considering and executing exit routes.
Types of casks the firm may offer
Availability changes continually and not every category suits every investor. The firm distinguishes three groups:
- New-fill and developing whisky casks: freshly filled and young casks with a longer horizon, for clients comfortable holding them until maturity and seeking early acquisition prices.
- Aged single malt casks: casks with meaningful age, for clients seeking greater immediate trade relevance and a potentially shorter timescale.
- Rare and premium casks: scarce distilleries and standout liquids, selective higher-value opportunities for experienced collectors and large portfolios.
Current stock is shared on enquiry or through the secure opportunities listing.
Ownership, storage and security
The firm explains that the cask is an asset owned by the client, held in professional storage and backed by the appropriate documentation. Clients can store their casks in HMRC-approved bonded warehouses, under duty suspension while they remain in bond and subject to warehouse conditions. Ownership can be documented through the relevant documentation and Delivery Orders, with casks registered in the client's name or in a private account. Casks are insured while they are in the bonded warehouse, under the applicable conditions. Samples and cask information can also be requested, warehouse visits can be arranged when permitted, and ownership can be maintained independently of the brokerage.
Client portal
Liquid Asset Partners offers a private online portal so clients can view their portfolio from mobile or desktop. The portal shows each cask with its size, quantity and acquisition date; the cost and payment status, as well as certificate progress; and documents, including Delivery Orders and paperwork, ready to download. Access is via secure login and each client sees only their own portfolio.
Leadership team
The firm emphasises that the people the client deals with are the ones responsible for their portfolio, from acquisition and client relationships to warehouse logistics. The leadership team consists of:
- Jamie Ellis, Sales Director: has 17 years in the alcohol investment industry. He has managed one of the oldest whisky cask investment companies, overseeing multi-million-pound client accounts and helping investors achieve returns. As Sales Director, he brings that experience and passion to make Liquid Asset Partners one of the most trusted names in whisky cask investment.
- Oliver Emery, Managing Director and Co-owner: has spent almost eight years working in whisky cask investment, managing portfolios that have exceeded £25 million in value. He is the third generation of his family to work with whisky and combines tradition with a modern approach; he enjoys taking clients to warehouses and distilleries to connect with the story behind their investment.
- Mark Emery, Operations Director and Co-owner: grew up with a passion for whisky passed down from his father. With a background in engineering, he oversees all backend operations at Liquid Asset Partners, managing warehouse logistics and transport to keep everything running smoothly.
