About Mister Moss
Mister Moss, roof moss removal in the south of England
Mister Moss is a roof moss removal company based in the south of the UK. Its sole owner is Daniel Weadley, who has over 18 years of experience in the roofing sector. The business was launched in 2024 and specialises in moss removal and roof repairs.
Working method: no pressure washing
The company removes moss from tiles using traditional methods, exclusively with brushes and scrapers, without resorting to pressure washing. The process begins with the installation of access equipment, which may include towers, ladders, roof ladders, harnesses and long-reach poles. The gutter outlets are then blocked to prevent moss from entering the pipes, the moss is removed with brushes and scrapers, damaged tiles are replaced, the gutters are cleaned and a biocide treatment is applied that penetrates the tile and its overlaps to prevent moss from growing back for years. Afterwards, the gutters are unblocked, the access equipment is removed and all waste generated is disposed of and managed.
Roofing services and repairs
In addition to moss removal, Mister Moss offers a range of complementary work on tiled roofs:
- Biocide treatment to prevent moss from reappearing.
- Replacement of broken tiles.
- Cleaning and unblocking of gutters and rainwater downpipes.
- Complex repairs: re-bedding tiles onto new mortar, repair of leadwork and replacement of rotten roof timbers, among others.
- Free roof assessment after moss removal, with photographs of any defects detected.
Coverage area
The company serves customers in Bordon, Basingstoke, Camberley, Farnham, Farnborough, Guildford, Woking, Fleet and Reading, as well as the surrounding areas of Berkshire, Surrey, north and east Hampshire and West Sussex.
Why remove moss from the roof
According to the company, most of its customers request the service for aesthetic reasons, but there are other effects associated with moss accumulation. Almost all gutter blockages they see are due to dislodged moss obstructing the gutter. Garden soakaways become blocked with leaves and pine needles held together by decaying moss from the roof. Drains and underground pipes also become blocked with moss, and unblocking them can cost hundreds of pounds. Excess moss can hinder the drainage of rainwater and cause leaks in the underfelt and roof timbers; the company has also seen Velux window frames leaking due to moss accumulation in the drainage channels, as well as vent tiles dripping when blocked. Clay tiles can deteriorate prematurely if covered in moss and mortar can crumble due to excess moss. Finally, many customers seek a long-term solution because moss falling from the roof ends up on patios, driveways and conservatory roofs.
Daniel Weadley's background
Daniel Weadley started in 1998 working as an installer of fascias, soffits, gutters and cladding for a local company. Over the years he gained experience in tiled roof repairs: replacing broken tiles, mortar work, including traditional lime mortar, moss removal and preventative treatments, repair of damaged timbers and underfelt, and gutter repair and installation. In 2004 he became self-employed and worked directly for private individuals and as a subcontractor for other companies. In 2014 he changed careers and became a project manager at a London-based construction company, as well as working as a digital content creator focused on DIY, home improvement and construction. In 2024 he returned to roofing work and set up Mister Moss.
Guarantees and service coverage
The company has a £2 million public liability insurance policy which, it states, protects the customer, their property and that of neighbours. It uses the strongest biocide treatments available in the UK, according to its own presentation. It has its own access towers, special roof ladders and other safety equipment, and can hire additional equipment for difficult-to-access roofs. By working directly on the roof, and not with long-pole pressure washers, it can replace broken tiles.
Examples of work carried out
The company's gallery includes specific cases. In one of them, a roof covered in moss required 27 large bags to collect the material brushed and scraped from the tiles. In another, the rear of a property had difficult access due to the lower roof and the design of the upper one, so roof ladders, towers, harnesses and long-reach poles were combined to remove the moss safely. In 2025, moss was removed from a detached house near Farnham, in Surrey, with before-and-after photographs and a project description.
