About Knight Kit
Knight Kit: safety lighting for work in low-visibility conditions
Knight Kit is a British company founded in 2005 that specialises in the design and development of battery-powered lighting. Its activity focuses on road safety and the control of vehicles, construction machinery and aircraft, as well as the protection of people working in low-light environments. The company was born from collaboration with the health and safety department of one of the UK's largest police forces, and its first product was a blue personal safety light for officers.
Origin and evolution
Knight Kit's first design, the KB01 model, sought to offer a more economical and effective alternative to existing flashing blue lights. The company managed to reduce costs and improve performance by working with available technologies, adapting them to the needs of emergency services, achieving a 50% saving compared to the options being considered at the time. That approach of quality at a contained price has since been a cornerstone of its catalogue. Over time, the firm expanded its offering to other luminous signalling products for police, ambulances, fire services and, later, for commercial organisations in the road, traffic management and construction sectors.
Products for traffic control and signalling
Knight Kit's range includes traffic control wands, warning beacons and cone lamps. The red traffic wand has become a standard in banksman training courses, and the company developed a specific version with a pressure switch that instantly changes from red to green when pressed and returns to red when released. It also markets sequential cone lamps, known in the trade as synchro lamps, which comply with the EN12352 standard and are presented as an alternative to those from established manufacturers at a more competitive price. The company states that these products are available with immediate stock and next-day delivery options.
Knight Pod rechargeable beacon systems
Among the products for emergency services, the rechargeable LED warning beacons stand out, marketed under the Knight Pod brand. They are supplied in boxes of six units or individually, with chargers, and are available in yellow, amber, blue, red, white and green. Different models offer operating modes, sequential patterns and synchronised flashes. Weighing less than 3.2 kg per box of six, they can be deployed in series to direct traffic around obstacles, create safe walkways and cordons, or demarcate helicopter landing zones. An adapter allows them to be mounted on traffic cones to raise the light signal. The strong magnetic base allows them to be attached to metal surfaces, and their design prevents the magnet from coming into direct contact with the surface, so it does not scratch paintwork. The blue version is called Police Pod, while the yellow/amber, green and red variants are aimed at the civil sector, with frequent use as low-level warning lights in factories and large workspaces.
Accessories and other supplies
Knight Kit also distributes a small selection of KlickFast accessories, manufactured by Peter Jones (ILG), widely used in emergency services to attach equipment such as Airwaves radio systems (Sepura and Motorola) and other police items. The company states that many police, ambulance and fire services are direct customers, as well as individuals who buy through its website. For the latter, it points out that it only charges shipping costs without profit margin, so it recommends grouping orders to optimise postal costs. Some items with blue light are restricted to police and other emergency services; the rest of the catalogue is open to any buyer, unless otherwise indicated.
Customers and presence in the sector
The company supplies numerous UK police services, including the London Metropolitan Police, Police Scotland, the Humberside police authority, the Devon and Dorset, Essex and West Midlands police forces, among others. Its police lights can be seen in several police-themed television series. Knight Kit maintains a long-standing collaboration with organisations such as Tarmac, for which it developed the safety wands for banksmen. The company presents itself as open to listening to suggestions and needs from organisations and individuals to develop new products.
