About Smelly Men
Smelly Men: handmade natural soaps and deodorants made in the UK
Smelly Men is a British personal care brand that makes natural soaps and deodorants with a simple-system approach: products that work without relying on sprays, aluminium or synthetic fragrances. The company positions itself as an alternative to conventional supermarket products and makes its items by hand in the UK.
The company was founded by James, who says the project began with a bar of soap given to him by a jiu jitsu training partner. That experience led him to question the quality of typical men's personal care products and to develop his own line based on natural ingredients.
A natural care system for men, women and boys
The range is organised into three main lines: Smelly Men, Smelly Women and Smelly Boys. Each one brings together everyday hygiene products suited to different audiences, from starter kits to restock items.
- Smelly Men: soaps, deodorants, beard oil and merchandise, plus essentials kits, duos, travel kits and beard oil kits.
- Smelly Women: deodorants, soaps and essentials sets, with gift options.
- Smelly Boys: soaps and deodorants for boys, with kits and gifts aimed at odour control during the growing years.
The brand also sells bundles and offers that combine products from different lines, as well as gift cards and items for couples.
New arrivals and featured products
Among the most recent additions are a Shave Serum and the Sports Day collection. The range also includes the Teen Spirit Duo, made up of soap and deodorant for boys, and the Teen Spirit Essentials Kit, with two soaps and one deodorant designed for roughly two months of use.
The shop offers a starter bundle that combines any two soaps and any two deodorants, with 15% off, free UK delivery and a free gift. The free UK shipping threshold is £30, while for international shipping it applies from $85.
Ingredients and formulation philosophy
The products are presented as 100% natural, vegan and cruelty-free. The company states that it does not use SLS, parabens, aluminium or synthetic fragrances. Instead of using the generic term "parfum" on labels, it uses only essential oils identified by name.
The brand's natural deodorant does not block sweat with aluminium salts or simply mask odour with fragrance: according to the company, it neutralises the bacteria that cause odour and uses essential oils to provide scent. The soap, for its part, is described as an effective but gentle cleanser that removes sweat and grime without drying out the skin.
Packaging and environmental commitment
The company is committed to eliminating single-use plastic. Almost all of its packaging is FSC-certified cardboard or recycled material. The exceptions are the beard oil and the shave serum, which come in glass with a bamboo lid to preserve product stability. No aerosols are used.
Safety and regulatory compliance
Every product has a Cosmetic Product Safety Report and is registered in the UK SCPN database by the manufacturers, who act as the legal Responsible Person. The company notes that this registration is the legal minimum required for any cosmetic sold in the country.
Editorial content and customer resources
The site includes a blog with articles on teenage hygiene, consumer choices, midlife, natural ingredients and skin health. It also offers an FAQ section covering how natural deodorant works, how long the 160-gram soap lasts — estimated at around four weeks with daily use —, how to apply it and the alternatives to conventional sprays and roll-ons.
The company says it has shipped over 1000 orders and shows an average rating of 4.9 stars from customers.
