Wild Highlands Coffee

Takeout coffee house on the Maid of the Loch pier, with Scottish-roasted coffee, cakes, outdoor seating, and a bean-and-equipment store.

About Wild Highlands Coffee

Wild Highlands Coffee finds its setting on the pier of the Maid of the Loch, the 1950s paddle steamer in Balloch beside Loch Lomond. The coffee house works in partnership with the boat project and serves takeout coffee with outdoor seating on the pier. Views of the loch and Ben Lomond are part of a stop that fits walks, cycling routes, and road trips.

Founder Heather came to coffee through an interest in the mountains, ultrarunning, and adventure racing. The business connects that background with small-batch coffee roasted in Scotland. The counter and online store allow customers to try it beside the loch or brew it at home, retaining the differences between blends and roast levels.

The Ben is a dark-roast Arabica and Robusta blend described as bold and strong. The Bothy combines the same two varieties with a medium roast and a more balanced profile. The Loch uses single-origin Arabica with a lighter roast. The 500-gram bags can be ordered as whole beans or with a fine or coarse grind; Dress Decaf adds a decaffeinated option.

At the coffee house, barista drinks are made with Mossgiel organic milk. Food includes homemade cakes with vegan and gluten-free options, using organic ingredients where possible. Sourdough baguettes have a seasonal role: the coffee-house page places them in summer. That distinction separates the regular offering from food accompanying the busier outdoor months.

The dog-friendly space operates as a takeout service without an indoor dining room. Outdoor seats allow customers to enjoy their drinks on the pier, with the landscape as part of the setting. For cyclists and walkers, it offers a coffee-and-food stop along the route, without making a café visit an admission ticket or sailing aboard the Maid of the Loch.

The store offers AeroPress equipment, including a travel option, and Bialetti coffee makers, alongside gifts and branded items. Brewing bags made with The Bothy extend the portable-coffee idea to other places. Orders are hand-packed; the same business connects a pause beside Loch Lomond with beans and equipment for brewing after the visit.
