Enterprise Car Club: hourly car and van rental in the UK

Enterprise Car Club is a car sharing programme operating in the UK that lets members rent cars and vans by the hour instead of owning a vehicle. The vehicles are located in designated on-street parking bays, train stations, car parks and Enterprise Rent-A-Car branches, and access is managed entirely through a mobile app.

How the service works

The process involves four steps. The first is joining: you choose your nearest location and complete an enrolment form, for which you need your driving licence to hand. Once your application is approved, you can book through the website or the mobile app. Then you go to the vehicle and unlock it with the app to retrieve the keys. At the end of your reservation, you must return the vehicle to the same location where you collected it and lock it with the app to end your booking.

Membership plans and costs

The company offers various membership plans. The Basic plan costs £10 a year and gives £10 driving credit every year, with an additional £10 application fee applicable only in the first year. The Standard Annual plan costs £30 in the welcome promotion for those switching from another car club, with the promo code SWITCH50, and thereafter £60 a year; the offer is valid until 1 March 2027. Rental rates vary by location, so you need to select a location to see the price. Membership, rental rates and mileage fees include fuel, servicing, MOT, breakdown cover and damage protection.

Vehicles and cover

The fleet includes small, medium and large city cars, roomy estates and vans, so every journey has a suitable vehicle. Members can access over 1,300 self-service car sharing vehicles across the UK. Cover includes roadside assistance and a standard excess of £1,250 for cars and £1,500 for vans per incident. Cancellation is free up to five hours before the start of the reservation if you have booked in advance.

Membership for drivers aged 19 to 21

The U22 Monthly plan is aimed at drivers aged between 19 and 21 with at least one year of driving experience. It costs £10 a month plus a £10 joining fee. It gives access to small and medium cars across the UK, with a charge of 65p per mile and restricted rental hours from 5:00 to 22:00. When you turn 22, you can move to the Basic or Standard plans. Rates for an economy vehicle start at £11.59 per hour.

The company operates in England (South East, South West, East, Midlands, North East and North West), Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. In addition to private individuals, it serves the public and private sectors with solutions that aim to eliminate the cost and administrative burden of grey fleets, collaborate on development proposals and improve organisations' environmental credentials.
