According to the timeline published by the company itself, Pittis was founded in 1774 by Thomas Pittis as an auction house. In the 19th century, Francis Pittis Snr. took on the family business as the island's property auctioneer. Later, Sir Francis Pittis, grandson of Thomas Pittis, founded Sir Francis Pittis Estate Agents and went on to become Mayor of Newport eight times. In the 20th century, the firm was renamed Sir Francis Pittis & Son.

In 1981, Paul Rooney began his career in estate agency with the founding of Rooney & Co. In 1991 he acquired the south-east region of Prudential Property Services and founded Arun Estates, made up of Cubitt & West, Pittis and Wards. In 1996 the lettings department opened, with property management services in the south-east of England. In 2000 Mortgage Matters Direct was created, giving access to in-house mortgage experts. In 2005 Pittis began its relationship with Move With Us, expanding conveyancing services in its area. In 2012 the brand was refreshed to integrate more audiences and connect with its sister brands in the south-east. In 2020 it adopted a new premium image with the addition of gold.
