About Homeschool Science Academy

Online science tutoring for GCSE and International GCSE

Homeschool Science Academy (HSA) is a British online academy specialising in teaching science to home-educated and school-attending students, both in the UK and overseas. Its offer combines private tutoring, planning materials and a revision guide in preparation.

The academy is led by Angeline Keightley, a qualified science teacher and experienced tutor in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science and Human Biology. She has audited the full available past-paper sets across the qualifications she teaches and uses them extensively in sessions. She is also a current Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics examiner, with previous experience as an examiner and moderator for OCR and AQA.

Diamond private tutoring

The Diamond programme offers bespoke 60-minute online tutoring in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Combined Science at GCSE and International GCSE level, plus Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Human Biology and A-level Biology. Lessons begin with the student's specification, strengths, gaps and examination goals. They are aimed at school-attending and home-educated students in the UK and overseas.

The price indicated on the site is £45 per 60-minute lesson, with a package of four lessons for £180 and no term commitment. The academy offers specific information for international families, with sections for students in China and in Saudi Arabia.

HSA Science Roadmaps

HSA Science Roadmaps are qualification-specific planning, progress and exam-preparation systems designed for home-educated students studying Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Biology (4BI1), Chemistry (4CH1) and Physics (4PH1). Each subject roadmap costs £14.95 and includes a full-colour printable roadmap, a black-and-white printer-friendly version and a digital companion in Google Sheets. Any two roadmaps cost £27.95 and the complete set of three subjects, £39.95.

Human Biology 4HB1 Revision Guide

The academy is preparing a revision guide dedicated to Edexcel International GCSE Human Biology 4HB1, with clear explanations, specification-focused revision, diagrams and exam-focused practice for students worldwide. The site allows you to join an early-access list for this guide.

Courses and subjects covered

HSA supports the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Biology 4BI1, Chemistry 4CH1, Physics 4PH1 and Science (Double Award) 4SD0 qualifications through individual tutoring, structured resources and a future small-group provision.

  • International GCSE Biology (4BI1): cells and biological molecules; plant and animal physiology; disease, immunity and coordination; genetics, inheritance and evolution; ecology and the environment; and practical skills, data and experimental reasoning.
  • International GCSE Chemistry (4CH1): atomic structure and the periodic table; bonding, structure and properties; formulae, equations and quantitative chemistry; acids, salts, electrolysis and redox; energetics, rates and equilibria; and organic chemistry and practical skills.
  • International GCSE Physics (4PH1): forces, motion and momentum; electricity and circuits; waves, light and sound; energy, work and power; solids, liquids, gases and thermal physics; and radioactivity, astrophysics and practical reasoning.
  • International GCSE Combined Science (4SD0): core biology, chemistry and physics in a coordinated programme leading to the Double Award qualification, with scientific enquiry, practical skills, data interpretation and exam technique.

Programmes and modes of study

The academy distinguishes between the two-year programme, which spreads learning over two academic years at a steadier pace, and the intensive programme, which completes the qualification in one academic year with more live teaching each week and a greater expectation of independent work. Both cover the same Pearson Edexcel International GCSE specification.

The admissions process begins with an initial consultation in which the intended qualification, examination year, previous science study, student confidence and the pace they can manage are reviewed. When the route is unclear, a short conversation is offered and, before formal enrolment, the student receives a specific programme recommendation. Joining after the programme has started is considered individually.

Resources for families and international students

The HSA resource centre addresses choosing qualifications, exams as a private candidate, exam centres, practical work and the differences between Combined Science and separate sciences. Published materials include guides on how to revise Human Biology 4HB1, the differences between Paper 1 and Paper 2 in that subject, planning home study, whether a GCSE in Science is worthwhile, comparing GCSE and International GCSE, the process for entering exams as a private candidate, grade reviews and appeals, finding an exam centre and comparing Combined Science and separate sciences.

International students are welcome when the timetable, course and examination route are suitable. Families remain responsible for confirming local recognition and for managing examination entry, fees and access arrangements in their country.
