About CDE Maths Tutoring
CDE Maths Tutoring: online one-to-one maths tutoring for secondary school and sixth form students
CDE Maths Tutoring is a maths tutoring service that provides online one-to-one lessons to secondary school and sixth form students. All lessons are one-to-one, so the sole focus of each session is the student's learning. The format is 100% online, which means no stranger comes to your home and the student does not have to travel to someone else's house. Parents or guardians are welcome to sit in on lessons if they wish.
The business operates under the trading name CDE Education, the brand name of CDE Tutoring and Education Services LTD.
Teachers and teaching experience
Most lessons are taught by Chris Desmond, a qualified maths teacher with over eight years of teaching experience, some of it as assistant head of the maths department at a school in Worcestershire. He remains involved with the school for occasional work with the maths department, although he has focused his work on online lessons to gain greater flexibility. He holds two DBS checks, one processed by the school and one paid for privately.
The service is expanding with other tutors, also experienced classroom maths teachers with DBS checks, which allows for greater availability and a wider range of expertise. The company notes that tutoring is not regulated and that, therefore, anyone can practise it; in contrast, it highlights that its lessons are taught by a practising maths teacher, with over 200 online lessons delivered during the 2024/2025 academic year.
Levels and lesson format
Teaching experience covers KS3 to KS5 (Years 7 to 13, ages 11 to 18), with particular focus on GCSE and A Level students. Lessons last 50 minutes, are delivered online and are individually tailored to each student. Frequency is flexible: most students choose weekly lessons, but fortnightly or twice-weekly sessions are also available.
A link is sent in advance of each lesson. Sessions take place via Google Meet, so all you need is an internet-enabled device; a laptop is recommended due to screen size, although students have also used tablets and phones successfully. In addition, each student needs a pen, paper and a calculator.
Pricing, billing and terms
Pricing information can be found on the tutoring page of the website. Lesson prices are fixed from the first lesson, so any subsequent increase does not affect students already enrolled. At the end of each session, an invoice with payment details is sent by email; payment is made by bank transfer.
Parent reviews
The website features reviews from parents and guardians on Trustpilot. The testimonials highlight students' confidence and improved results, as well as the quality of teaching. One review, signed by Samantha, says that her son was already performing well in Higher Maths but needed support with the more challenging Grade 8 and 9 topics; after working on these areas with Chris, his understanding and confidence improved, and the family plans to work with him again when the student and his twin brother begin A-level Maths. Other reviews, signed by Flo, Lisa and Michelle, mention students' progress and increased confidence, as well as the teacher's professional and approachable manner.
