About Londis

Londis, a network of convenience stores in the United Kingdom

Londis is a symbol group of convenience stores with a presence in the United Kingdom. According to its own presentation, it has more than 2,400 members and around 50% of its network operates as forecourts, making it, in its words, the largest forecourt partner in the country. The group is backed by Booker Group, the UK's largest wholesaler, which provides it with buying power, competitive pricing, channel exclusives and a promotional package with margins for retailers.

Range and own brands

Londis stores offer a selection of big brands and everyday essentials: bread, milk, eggs, groceries, fruit and vegetables. For those in a hurry, they have coffee to go and a hot food section. The group markets two own brands: Jacks, focused on quality fruit and vegetables at a good price, and Euro Shopper, with essential grocery products at permanently low prices.

Weekly in-store offers

The group's website shows a selection of current promotions in its stores, including Starbucks Frappuccino (Mocha, Caramel and Pumpkin Spice) buy 1 get 1 free; Pot Noodle Chicken & Mushroom, Original Curry and Bombay Bad Boy at 2 for £2; Haribo Party Box and Maltesers at £5; and Diet Coke and Coca-Cola Zero at £7.49.

History and business model

Londis was founded in 1959 by a group of independent retail grocers with the aim of creating a delivered wholesale company jointly owned by the retailers it served. Its main objective is to offer support in marketing, purchasing, store development, technology and supply chain so that associated retailers can grow their businesses in the convenience market.

Retailer programme

The group invites retailers to join its network under a model it describes as 100% cost free, with a Spend & Save discount scheme, free marketing support, group buying power, award-winning own brands and a free fascia and installation package, subject to terms and conditions. The company states that it has more than 2,200 members in the UK and presents itself as the fastest-growing symbol group in the sector.

Awards

Among the awards the company claims to have received are The Convenience Awards 2024 (Retailer of the Year, UK's favourite Symbol Group, UK's favourite Conv. Store Group, Convenience Rising Star of the Year and Small Conv.
