Baur au Lac, a Five-Star Hotel in the Heart of Zurich

Baur au Lac is a five-star hotel in central Zurich, Switzerland, beside the lake and surrounded by a private park. Open since 1844, it has been run by the same family for seven generations. The hotel operates in the ultra-luxury segment and belongs to The Leading Hotels of the World and Swiss Deluxe Hotels. It has received the Michelin Guide’s three Keys—the highest rating—two years in a row and was named Best City Hotel by the Falstaff Travel Guide.

Accommodations: Individually Designed Rooms and Suites

The hotel offers suites, junior suites, and rooms, each individually designed, with views of the private park, the city, or, depending on the category, Lake Zurich and the Alps. Rooms and suites can connect for multigenerational stays. Guests visit for both business and leisure. Housekeeping is provided twice daily, and selected drinks in the minibar are included with some room and suite categories.

Dining and Restaurants

The dining program includes several venues. Marguita, beside Lake Zurich, focuses on Mediterranean cuisine and has a terrace. Baur’s Brasserie & Bar pairs modern elegance with classic European cooking; the brasserie is closed from April through October, and the bar also takes a summer break from July 13 through August 23, when Marguita’s terrace takes over. Le Hall is a relaxed setting for lunch, coffee, or aperitifs, and offers afternoon tea. Baur au Lac Vins, active since 1844, selects and sells wines and spirits with expert service.

Wellness, Fitness, and Activities

The fitness area has innovative equipment and panoramic views of Lake Zurich and the Alps. The hotel offers guests an exclusive gym membership. It also arranges experiences such as private cruises on Lake Zurich aboard Tugenia, a nostalgic salon boat. The concierge team, available 24 hours a day, handles cultural recommendations and reservations around the city.

Events and Celebrations

The hotel has several rooms for meetings and celebrations: Lindenplatz, Salon I, Salon II, Salon III, Salon Japonais, Le Salon Français, and Le Petit Palais. The spaces have modern technical infrastructure and are available for events.

Guest Services

Services include 24-hour concierge assistance, limousine transfers from the airport or central station, valet parking and a garage, and twice-daily housekeeping. The hotel also offers a fleet of high-end vehicles for guest transportation. Guests can purchase monetary and dining gift certificates, as well as selected products from the hotel shop. Dogs are welcome for an additional CHF 45 per dog, per day; the hotel provides custom-designed dog beds, bowls, and a special canine menu. Children can meet Leo and Eli, the hotel’s stuffed animals.

Book and Legacy

In collaboration with Assouline, the hotel published a 200-page book covering more than 180 years of history, with images of past and present moments, cultural and artistic encounters, and life beside the lake.
