Castello del Sole Beach Resort & SPA is a five-star establishment located in Ascona, in the Swiss canton of Ticino, on the shores of Lake Maggiore. It presents itself as a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and Relais & Châteaux, and is part of The Living Circle, a group of first-class hotels and restaurants set in natural surroundings.

The resort occupies a 140-hectare estate directly on the lake, in a landscape of southern Switzerland that the company itself describes as picture-postcard. The estate includes farmland and vineyards that supply rice, vegetables, fruit and wine to the hotel's kitchen.

Accommodation and wellness

The hotel offers rooms and suites, presented as a space to rest with a sense of home. Its wellness facilities include a private beach and a 2,500 square metre spa, with beauty and aesthetic dermatology treatments, an Onsernone SPA Suite and hairdressing and beauty services. The spa also welcomes external guests, with specific conditions for them.

Restaurants and winery

The dining offering is spread across several venues: Locanda Barbarossa, Ristorante Tre Stagioni, Ristorante Al Parco, Bar Bassa Selim and Cortile Barbarossa, Snack Bar La Spiaggia and Rustico del Sole. The cuisine is inspired by the estate's produce and Mediterranean recipes, with its own interpretation.

The resort has its own winery, Cantina alla Maggia, which produces wines and organises visits and tastings. The company also sells its wines through Enoteca Alimentare and manages the Terreni alla Maggia farm, dedicated to growing rice and other products.

Experiences and activities

The hotel offers a series of unique experiences: private aperitifs on the water, sunset boat trips, creating a personalised cuvée, tastings at the Cantina alla Maggia winery, gourmet picnics in the garden, birdwatching, lake fishing and walks to discover the surrounding rice fields and vineyards. It also offers stays for guests travelling with their horse, with a spacious stable managed by Philine Brunner.

Arrival at the resort can be by train to Locarno and then by boat: the hotel offers a pick-up service at the port of Locarno with boat and skipper, which takes guests directly to the Castello del Sole beach, where a glass of sparkling wine from its winery is served as a welcome.
