About Fotografiska

Fotografiska, a contemporary museum of photography, art, and culture

Fotografiska presents itself as an international hub dedicated to photography, art, and culture. Founded in Stockholm in 2010, it has become a global institution with locations in Berlin, Tallinn, Shanghai, and other cities. Each location offers a unique experience, but all share the purpose of inspiring new perspectives and sparking meaningful conversations through photography and contemporary art.

An international network of museums

The institution operates several locations worldwide. The site mentions Stockholm, Berlin, Shanghai, Tallinn, New York, and Oslo, and announces the opening of a new location in Shenzhen on October 1, 2026, which will be its second location in China and its fifth globally. The company also organizes exhibitions outside its venues, under the concept of off-site exhibitions.

Exhibition program

The program includes solo and group exhibitions by contemporary photographers and visual artists. Among the shows announced or on view are those by Lauren Greenfield, Huang Jingyao, Tan Yingjie, Thomas Billhardt, Nils Petter Löfstedt, Carola Lampe, Banz & Bowinkel, Robert Zhao Renhui, Thomas Sauvin, Tony Oursler, Anton Corbijn, Lotta Antonsson, Inta Ruka, and Lebohang Kganye, among others. Some of these exhibitions are presented under the emerging artist label. Exhibition dates range from 2026 to 2027, according to the site's information.

Fotografiska Emerging

Fotografiska Emerging is a global initiative dedicated to discovering and amplifying the next generation of photographers and visual artists. The institution describes it as a commitment to supporting artists at pivotal moments in their careers. Within this framework is the Emerging Global open call, which invites project submissions for the first Emerging Global group exhibition at Fotografiska Berlin. A global open call is also announced in collaboration with The Estée Lauder Companies, titled “One in Eight,” aimed at emerging artists to capture authentic views on breast cancer, as part of a partnership in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Sweden.

Cultural and culinary experience

The museum's program is complemented by talks, performances, music, and interactive experiences, often inspired by the exhibitions or created together with local voices. The institution notes that its culinary spaces extend the cultural experience and that food and creativity come together there.

Store and publications

The museum store serves as an extension of the experience. It offers posters by artists such as Rinko Kawauchi and Elizaveta Porodina, as well as the “Make Art Not War” poster by Shepard Fairey, linked to the Photo Synthesis exhibition. The posters are printed on 170 g matte paper. Photography books and exhibition catalogs from Fotografiska are also available.
