Malabar Hill, a boutique resort in the hills of Weligama Bay

Malabar Hill is a contemporary boutique resort located in southern Sri Lanka, in Weligama Bay, Matara District. The accommodation is described as a retreat carved into the edge of the jungle, with hill views and an outdoor living experience designed to transport guests away from the ordinary. The estate is a short tuk tuk ride from the beach, among rice paddies and water buffalo.

The project was conceived by old friends Dominic Scriven and Lawson Johnston, already owners and developers of the boutique hotel Mango Bay Phu Quoc, in Vietnam. Creative direction is by Lawson Johnston, an Australian designer with extensive travel experience in Asia and knowledge of the Hindu, Muslim, Tamil, and Buddhist cultures that converge in Sri Lanka. Dominic Scriven, a British financier with thirty years of activity in Asia and founder of Dragon Capital in Vietnam in 1994, brings the financial and development side. The architecture draws on Moorish-inspired details and a safari camp language, with local crafts and materials treated in a light, contemporary way.

Accommodation and villas

The resort offers accommodation in villas within a natural setting, with gardens, courtyards, and frequent birdsong. The offering combines distinctive design, unconstrained comfort, and an environmental orientation declared by its developers.

Hill House Restaurant and bar

The resort's restaurant and bar are presented as an example of thoughtful hospitality. Hill House Restaurant serves a selection of international and Sri Lankan cuisine made with fresh local produce, with breakfast, floating breakfast, lunch and dinner, desserts, and drinks. The menu is described as elegant, balanced, and flavorful dishes. The bar, 10 meters long with 270-degree views stretching from the jungle to the ocean, is presented as the social hub of the resort, suitable both for socializing and for quietly enjoying the landscape.

Spa and wellness

The spa offers world-class treatments, from deep healing therapies to more indulgent options, with essential oils and lotions. The offering includes therapeutic and relaxation treatments aimed at rest and revitalization.

Weddings and events

The resort is located in southwestern Sri Lanka, close to the island's main tourist spots, beaches, and natural areas. Distances provided by the property include Colombo Airport at 175 km, Koggala Lake and domestic airport at 21 km, Mirissa Beach at 9 km, Galle Fort at 34 km, Sinharaja Rainforest at 78 km, and Yala National Park at 126 km. The airport is about three hours away.
