About Zarautz Balea Igeriketa
A swimming club with roots in 1981
Zarautz Balea Igeriketa is a swimming club based in Zarautz, Gipuzkoa. Its origins go back to 1981, when Zarautz’s municipal pool opened. With the support of 15 to 20 people who worked for a year to establish it, the swimming club was formed under the Zarautz Kirol Elkartea umbrella. The club took part in its first competition in September 1982.
After several years as part of Zarautz Kirol Elkartea, the club decided in November 2006 to continue independently and adopted the name Zarautz Balea Igeriketa.
Competitive swimming and club activities
The club competes in federated swimming events, including Basque Country and Gipuzkoa championships for senior, junior, infantil, alevín, and benjamín age groups. Its calendar includes the Basque Country Winter Championships for senior and junior swimmers (50-meter pool), the Basque Country Winter Infantil Championships, the Gipuzkoa Winter Championships for senior, junior, and infantil swimmers, the Gipuzkoa Winter Meet, the Gipuzkoa Clubs Cup, and the Paco Sánchez Meet, as well as the alevín and benjamín leagues.
The club also organizes its own activities, including the Getaria–Zarautz open-water swim, and arranges trips for swimmers to competitions, such as a trip to Benidorm over Easter. It has training groups for junior, senior, and masters swimmers.
