About FABZ - Federación de Asociaciones de Barrios de Zaragoza

What FABZ is

Federación de Asociaciones de Barrios de Zaragoza, known as FABZ, is a secular nonprofit independent of political parties and public administration. Recognized by the city as an organization of municipal public interest, it brings together 49 neighborhood associations across Zaragoza, its metropolitan area and the province.

How it works

Working committees address the city model, women and equality, neighborhood participation, older adults and health. Through them, the federation develops proposals, formal comments and public campaigns directed to government bodies.

Main issues

  • Urban planning: comments on amendments to the general urban plan and advocacy concerning transportation, trees and development.
  • Public health: primary-care advocacy, scrutiny of health-center cuts and campaigns concerning publication of cancer-screening data in Aragón.
  • Older adults: activities addressing social isolation and participation in Spain's neighborhood seniors network.
  • Women and equality: safe-space workshops, events opposing gender-based violence and positions on municipal equality policy.
  • Housing: participation in Zaragoza's civic housing-rights pact and guides to tourist-use housing.

Publications and communication

The federation publishes La Calle de Todas, distributes a newsletter to more than 270 subscribers and maintains an activity calendar for FABZ and member associations. It also publishes provincial news and collects its appearances in the media.
