About DanSign
What DanSign is
DanSign is a registered method combining dance with Spanish Sign Language. A system of visual-manual cues introduces the steps of a choreography and makes rhythm visible for deaf and deafblind participants. The project is led by Itahisa Dubois, a sign-language interpreter, physical-education teacher, dancer and community-activity instructor.
Method and licensing
DanSign licenses its registered methodology through training. It addresses dance instructors making classes accessible to deaf participants, dance professionals working in loud environments and educators seeking visual teaching tools. New course dates are announced through the project.
Workshops
- DanSign Masterclass: dance and Spanish Sign Language brought together through visual instruction, choreography and music for deaf and hearing participants
- DanSign LSE: a playful artistic introduction to Spanish Sign Language taught by sign-language specialists and Itahisa Dubois as interpreter
- Biodansign: creative dance helping deaf and deafblind participants explore movement, body awareness and rhythm
- DanSign Relax: creative visualization, relaxation and breathing adapted for deaf and deafblind participants
Sign-language interpretation
DanSign provides Spanish Sign Language interpretation for artists, drawing on more than 10 years of experience making arts and culture accessible to deaf audiences. Settings include theater, stand-up comedy, concerts, music videos, short films and oral storytelling.

The method treats rhythm as information that can be translated visually, allowing sign language to enter the choreography rather than remain separate from the artistic experience.
