About Studioap

Artist Ángeles Agrela

Studioap is an art space in Spain dedicated to the work of artist Ángeles Agrela (Úbeda, 1966), a prominent figure in Spanish art since the mid-1990s. The website presents her work through sections on her biography, publications, exhibitions, and contact information.

Career and artwork

Agrela has held more than 45 solo exhibitions and is considered one of Spain's most recognized artists. Her recent work explores women's role in art history and the ways women have been represented. In her drawings, she shifts attention away from specific facial features and toward other elements that define a figure, such as masses of hair covering the face and clothing. She examines the symbolism of the mask and the chameleon-like quality that fashion and clothing add to a person's image, even when the face is hidden.
