About Associació Suport

Inclusive recreation and community support

Associació Suport is a nonprofit working to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities and their families. Its main focus is inclusive leisure, particularly for children and young people.

Activities and programs

The association has worked in inclusive recreation for more than a decade. Its programs include:

  • Assessing and supporting children with disabilities who take part in regular leisure activities, including youth clubs and summer programs, in collaboration with local government.
  • Training support staff for children's and youth recreation programs.
  • Training young people with disabilities as assistant activity leaders, with placements at summer programs.
  • Ongoing guidance and mentoring for young people serving as support leaders.
  • Organizing Festa per una Societat Inclusiva, which held its 18th edition in 2021.

Training assistant activity leaders

The association has developed training for young people with disabilities who want to work as recreation program assistants. In 2018, it held the second edition in Vilanova i la Geltrú for young people interested in joining summer program staff teams. That year, it also delivered training through Fundació Catalana de l'Esplai for 13 participants ages 17 to 25 with disabilities, from five recreation organizations. The association has advocated for changes to the Government of Catalonia's recreation agreement to recognize the assistant activity leader role.

Where it works

Programs have taken place mainly in Vilanova i la Geltrú and Gavà. In 2016, the association supported 25 children in Vilanova i la Geltrú and 10 in Gavà. Its work in Vilanova began 13 years earlier; 2016 was its first year working in Gavà.
