A family winery rooted in the Penedès
Familia Torres traces its winegrowing roots in the Penedès to the 16th century. Brothers Jaime and Miguel Torres Vendrell founded the business in Vilafranca del Penedès in 1870 with an export focus. More than 150 years later, the fifth generation runs the company, concentrating on wines from distinctive vineyards and historic estates, the recovery of ancestral grape varieties, and regenerative viticulture.
Wines and spirits
The company makes wine under several brands and projects:
- Familia Torres: wines from historic estates in the Penedès, Conca de Barberà, Priorat, and Costers del Segre.
- La Carbonera: a Rioja Alavesa project focused on the origin and character of Labastida.
- Pago del Cielo: wines from Ribera del Duero and Rueda.
- Torre Penelas: a Galician manor estate in the Salnés Valley, in the Rías Baixas designation, with a walled vineyard and granite tanks for winemaking and aging.
- Vardon Kennett: premium sparkling wines made from its own high-altitude vineyards.
- Juan Torres Master Distillers: the group's brandy and other spirits division.
Associated wineries also include Miguel Torres Chile, Marimar Estate, and Jean Leon.
Wine regions
Beyond its long-established presence in the Penedès, Conca de Barberà, Priorat, and Costers del Segre, Familia Torres has vineyards and wineries in Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Rueda, and Rías Baixas, as well as in Chile and California.
Recognition and certifications
The company belongs to Primum Familiae Vini and co-founded International Wineries for Climate Action and the Regenerative Viticulture Association. It is B Corp certified.
