A Penedès cooperative on a large scale

Covides is a first-tier wine cooperative based in Vilafranca del Penedès, Barcelona. It began when a group of Penedès growers joined to make wines and cavas professionally with a character of their own. It describes itself as Catalonia’s largest first-tier wine cooperative, with more than 700 active members farming roughly 2,000 hectares in more than 50 rural communities across the Penedès.

Wine and cava

The cooperative makes still wines, organic wines, and cavas. It uses an artisanal approach to winemaking to express the Penedès landscape; its cavas start with selected estate grapes and follow the traditional method with extended aging. Member vineyards stretch from the foothills of Montserrat to the Garraf massif, under the Penedès, Cava, and Catalunya designations of origin.

Facilities

Covides operates three wineries in the heart of the Penedès, combining traditional methods and modern technology. The facilities have received international awards for innovation, modernization, and efficiency.

Markets and visits

Exports account for more than 65% of Covides’ turnover and reach more than 50 countries on five continents. Its farm stores sell cooperative products, while visitor activities include tours, tastings, and Nordic walking through the vineyards.

Certifications and recognition

• IFS quality certification at the highest grade across its wineries, renewed for 15 consecutive years.
• An independent ISO 14064 audit reporting a 33.9% reduction in its carbon footprint, with 10,047.34 metric tons of CO₂ equivalent emitted in 2025.
• Four medals at the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards.
