About Fundación Xosé Neira Vilas
Galician literature in the writer’s home village
Fundación Xosé Neira Vilas is based in Gres, within Vila de Cruces in Pontevedra province. It preserves and shares the literary legacies of Xosé Neira Vilas, author of Memorias dun neno labrego, and writer and educator Anisia Miranda. The foundation also advocates for the Galician language.
Casa do Romano
The foundation’s headquarters at Casa do Romano in Gres include an ethnographic museum and a library.
Literary prizes
The foundation runs several Galician-language competitions, some with the Xunta de Galicia and publisher Galaxia:
- Premio Xosé Neira Vilas for short novels
- Premio Anisia Miranda for children’s theater
- Premio Arume for poetry for children
- Premio Xosé Neira Vilas for young-adult literature, organized with Galaxia
In 2026, Raquel Castro Martínez won the Anisia Miranda children’s theater prize for Perdendo o norte, and Álvaro Domínguez won the second Xosé Neira Vilas young-adult literature prize for Ensino para místicas.
A forthcoming literary tribute
The Real Academia Galega decided to dedicate the 2027 Día das Letras Galegas to Xosé Neira Vilas, a decision welcomed by the foundation. The organization also maintains a Facebook page.
