About Fundación Provigo

Civic Forum for Vigo and Its Region

Fundación Provigo y su Área is a nonprofit based in Vigo, Pontevedra, Spain. It serves as a forum for institutions and organizations involved in civic life and is open to individuals and organizations interested in supporting development in the city and its surrounding area.

Origins and History

The foundation grew out of the study “Vigo and Its Area of Influence: Socioeconomic Diagnosis and Outlook,” commissioned in 1989 by the Provincial Confederation of Business Owners of Pontevedra, with support from the Provincial Council of Pontevedra. Completed in November 1990, the study called for a comprehensive medium- and long-term plan for Vigo and the surrounding area, overseen by an organization bringing together local public institutions and regional business groups.

In 1991, the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Navigation of Vigo joined the Provincial Confederation of Business Owners of Pontevedra. Together, they presented the City of Vigo with a proposal for a “Strategic Plan for Vigo and Its Area of Influence,” which laid the groundwork for the current foundation.
