About Els Wiering
Who Els Wiering is
Els Wiering is a Dutch visual artist who has lived in Spain since 2017. Born in Een, a small village in Drenthe, she studied at the Minerva Art Academy in Groningen and earned a bachelor's degree in 2012. Her earlier professional career was in information and communications technology.
Career and work
After graduation, Wiering participated in group, two-person and solo exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad. She belonged to the Dutch Society of Sculptors, NKVB, until moving to southern Spain in 2017. That transition also changed her art, from monochrome three-dimensional forms on concrete bases toward lighter, more playful work.
Series include Aquascapes, begun in 2023; Totems, begun in 2020; Connected spaces from 2019; Subtle balances from 2014–2015; Rhythmic constructs from 2009–2013; and Lines from 2012. She uses varied and often modest materials with direct processes that retain evidence of making. Named materials include polystyrene, concrete, steel strapping, wood, Fabriano and Guarro paper, colored cellophane and coffee filters.
Commissions and collaborations
Wiering accepts commissions and is open to collaborative projects. Inquiries about purchasing work or developing a joint project are handled by email.
