APECCV - Valencian Circus Arts for Cultural Understanding Association

A circus arts center in Cabanyal

The Valencian Circus Arts for Cultural Understanding Association (APEC) is a nonprofit founded in 2011 and based in Valencia’s Cabanyal neighborhood. Its home, Món Baraka Nou Circ, serves as a place for circus classes, rehearsals, and creative work, as well as a community and cultural space open to the neighborhood.

The association brings together performing arts professionals, with a particular focus on contemporary circus and on using the arts to support social inclusion. Its work is organized through two programs: the Contemporary Circus School and the Social Circus School.

Contemporary Circus School

Opened in late 2014, the school offers recreational and nonprofessional instruction in a range of contemporary circus techniques. The organization describes contemporary circus as an art form that does not exploit people or animals and brings together performing arts, music, and different cultures. Its aim is to make the discipline accessible to people in Valencia, especially in the city’s maritime neighborhoods.

Social Circus School

This program combines arts education with values-based learning and aims to support personal and community growth. Since 2011, APEC has worked with social-service organizations, schools, other associations, and youth centers in Valencia and the surrounding province. It uses contemporary circus as a way to encourage learning and social connection, including for children, teens, and young people at risk of social exclusion.
