About Museo de la Fauna Salvaje de Valdehuesa - Fundación Dr. Romero Nieto

Wildlife from five continents, gathered in the León mountains

The Museo de la Fauna Salvaje sets its collection against the mountain landscape around Valdehuesa. Its galleries move across Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Oceania, using animal specimens to give visitors a broad view of wildlife rather than a single region. The museum reports more than 8,000 species on display, with an entomology collection of more than 10,000 insects offering a closer look at a very different scale of life.

Outside, the experience changes from exhibition rooms to a 30-hectare oak woodland where a separate wildlife park lets visitors see animals including deer, European bison, and Iberian wolves in a semi-free environment. The combination makes the site feel part natural-history museum and part field visit: start with the variety inside, then carry that curiosity into the landscape beyond the galleries.
