About GR 111 El Camino de La Vera
A Long-Distance Trail Through La Vera
Known as the Camino de La Vera, the GR 111 is a 100-kilometer long-distance trail through the 19 municipalities of La Vera, on the southern slopes of the Gredos Mountains. The route runs from Plasencia to Madrigal de la Vera, near the Ávila provincial line, crossing six valleys along the northern side of the central massif.
The trail links mountain scenery with towns whose history and architecture give the journey a strong sense of place. Among them are Losar de la Vera, Jarandilla de la Vera, Cuacos de Yuste, Garganta la Olla, Jaraíz, Pasarón de la Vera, Tejeda de Tiétar, Arroyomolinos de la Vera, and Gargüera.
Woodlands, Gorges, and Waterfalls
The route description highlights a varied landscape of oak, chestnut, birch, cherry, strawberry, olive, elm, and willow trees. It also follows gorges with natural waterfalls and sections associated with the route of Emperor Charles V, combining rural heritage with changing mountain terrain.
Planning the Route
The trail’s website brings together route descriptions, downloadable materials, planning information, points of interest, and QR codes. It also presents alternatives such as the Ruta Joven and Ruta Aventura for visitors looking for different ways to explore La Vera.
