A Freight Cooperative Founded in 1964

Cooperativa de Transports de Tortosa S.C.C.L. (COTRAT) is a road freight cooperative established in 1964. It brings together independent carriers from the Ebro region and nearby areas, operating with both member-owned vehicles and centralized management.

Transportation Services

Cotrat provides full-truckload and less-than-truckload services across regional, domestic, and international routes, including the European Union and Andorra.

• Full truckload: General freight carried in 12- and 16-metric-ton rigid trucks and 24-metric-ton tractor-trailers.
• Refrigerated freight: Citrus, fruit, and vegetables carried in 24-metric-ton refrigerated trailers.
• ADR-regulated goods: Transportation of regulated dangerous goods, excluding explosives and flammable liquids, using trailers or 12- and 16-metric-ton vehicles.
• Group 3 waste: Transportation using 24-metric-ton trailers.
• Less-than-truckload and parcels: Daily parcel service between Tortosa and Barcelona, with distribution in Baix Ebre, Montsià, Ribera d'Ebre, Terra Alta, and the northern part of Castellón province. Daily consolidated freight runs between Tortosa and Barcelona, with onward service to the rest of Catalonia, Spain, and the European Union, and from Barcelona to Tortosa with local distribution. Weekly consolidated freight service connects Tortosa with the central region, including Madrid.

Logistics and Warehousing

The cooperative has a 2,200-square-meter warehouse at the Baix Ebre Industrial Park. From there, it provides logistics and transportation services to domestic and international businesses, which can be combined with full or partial loads.

Fleet and Capacity

Cotrat's members have 140 vehicles registered with the cooperative. They include 12- and 16-metric-ton canvas-sided rigid trucks; 24-metric-ton canvas-sided tractor-trailers; refrigerated trailers and refrigerated box trailers; food-grade tankers; animal-feed tankers; cement tankers; concrete mixers; and dump semi-trailers for aggregates. For full-truckload service, Cotrat lists a fleet of 60 vehicles: two-axle 12-metric-ton canvas-sided trucks, three-axle 16-metric-ton canvas-sided trucks, 24-metric-ton canvas-sided and refrigerated trailers, and a canvas-sided semi-trailer.

Coverage and Guarantees

Each shipment is covered by cargo insurance, including theft, up to €180,303.63. The cooperative says its carrier members hold the required administrative licenses and current vehicle insurance.

Services for Members

In addition to transportation, Cotrat provides member services such as diesel and lubricant supplies; management of auto, cargo, life, accident, license-revocation, and liability insurance; vehicle self-insurance; group purchasing of transportation equipment and vehicles; financial advice; French motorway toll cards; VAT recovery; group mobile-phone service; and training in dangerous goods, professional qualifications, and business skills.
