About Museo Histórico de Torrevelilla

Preserving Torrevelilla’s Local Memory

Museo Histórico de Torrevelilla documents the history, daily life, and customs of Torrevelilla in Teruel. It is managed by the nonprofit Asociación Cultural Museo Histórico de Torrevelilla, founded on January 20, 2018, by residents interested in local history. Members include the town council, Asociación Cultural Club Baloncesto Torrevelilla, and individual supporters.

Rooms, Archives, and Documentary Films

The permanent displays cover olive growing and agriculture, historical documents, schooling, sewing and clothing, the kitchen, and the work of a local healthcare practitioner. Other rooms are dedicated to Pelegrina Vallés and the town’s cultural basketball association, alongside a gallery of notable people and a decorated room.

The museum also holds the Fondo Navarro collection and produces documentary films about Torrevelilla and its language and traditions, including work on “Lo Chapurriàu.”

A Building With Several Lives

The building was erected in the 18th century by landowners Miguel Vallés and Bárbara Sanz. Their descendant Pelegrina Vallés Vallés donated it in 1924 for a foundation providing free education. The Escuelas de San Antonio de Padua, known as Fundación Vallés, were established in 1927 and run by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Anne until 1964.

From 1968 to 1980, the building served as a Tele Club. It became the headquarters of Asociación Cultural Club Baloncesto Torrevelilla in 1985; the association opened the Antonio Gracia Briz ethnology room in 1996.

Temporary Exhibitions

Programs in the exhibition space on Calle San Roque have included paintings by Mercedes Sancho and Blanca Ruiz, the Miguel Navarro Centelles legacy exhibition, Pedro Gresa’s antique toys, and the photography display “Así Vestíamos,” about clothing in the past. The museum has also presented work from the 2025–2026 restoration course and events marking the cultural association’s 40th anniversary in 2025.
