Fresh and frozen fruit operations

Agrufruto, S.A. was founded in 1965 by a group of fruit growers in Torrefarrera, Lleida. The company wholesales fresh fruit, imports and exports fruit, grades and packs it, and offers controlled-atmosphere cold storage and frozen-food storage.

Facilities and capacity

Agrufruto has 30,000 square meters of facilities. It operates 52 cold rooms totaling 55,000 cubic meters for controlled-atmosphere fruit storage using the U.LO. system, plus 8 rooms totaling 12,570 cubic meters for frozen products. Its grading and packing equipment can process 7,000 kilograms per hour.

Products and packaging

The company works with fruit from member growers and provides technical advice and production follow-up to match each variety’s size, color, and flavor. It grades and packs fruit in different formats, commonly 50-by-30 and 60-by-40-centimeter cardboard or wooden boxes, bushel boxes with dividers, one-kilogram baskets, and two-kilogram bags.

Integrated production

Both growers and the company’s central facility are registered in the Integrated Production Registry, which calls for environmentally responsible products. Agrufruto also received European Union NextGenerationEU funding through Spain’s Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan to install an on-site solar power plant.
