Custom Electric Motors

VASCAT is a small family-owned company based in Torelló, Barcelona, Spain. It designs and manufactures custom variable-speed electric motors for industrial applications, dynamometers, and electric machines for test benches. Its stated production capacity is 2,000 motors a year, and it exports worldwide.

Technology and Capabilities

VASCAT works with direct-drive and high-speed technologies and develops custom solutions. It has its own software tools and test equipment and offers technical resources including application-sizing spreadsheets, a motor selector, interactive data sheets, engineering drawings and 3D models, and instruction manuals.

Quality and Certifications

The company has held TÜV ISO 9001 quality certification since 1999 and lists a current ISO 9001:2015 certificate. It has adopted a UL-recognized electrical insulation system (OBJY2), Class 180 (H), for motor windings, with UL compliance certificates for the United States and Canada. Its motors are designed specifically for variable-frequency drives (VFDs).

History

Founded in 1974, VASCAT marked its 50th anniversary in 2024. Its development milestones include DC VD, BT, and ID motors (1974–1996); MAC vector-controlled asynchronous motors (1997–2006); MDD synchronous torque motors (2006–2009); high-speed MAC HS4 motors (2010–2014); MAC QM asynchronous motors for chassis dynamometers (2015–2016); very-high-speed MAC HS2 asynchronous motors (2016–2019); and the water-cooled MAC QW motors (2024–2025).

Leadership

The company’s management team includes José Luis García, chair of the board; Xavier Palomar, general manager; Toni García, chief financial officer; Jordi Villen, purchasing director; Jordi Trullén, technology director; Marc Basagaña, export sales; Xevi Ardite, domestic sales manager; and Josep Mª Serra, international sales manager.
