About Fundació pel Desenvolupament Humà i Social (Fundsocial)

A path back to education and work

Fundació pel Desenvolupament Humà i Social (Fundsocial) is a Catalan nonprofit that promotes a more responsible and supportive society. Its main initiative is the Youth Leadership Social Program, for young people who are neither studying nor working, including students who have repeated a year of compulsory secondary school. The program aims to help them reconnect with education, employment, and community life.

Youth Leadership Social Program

The program began with a pilot in 2013 in the Les Arenes neighborhood of Terrassa and has worked with other organizations since October of that year. It uses its own educational approach and, according to figures published by the foundation, has helped about 39% of participating students get back on track. It is designed for young people who have lost motivation because of limited job opportunities or early school leaving.

The foundation publishes annual program reports covering 2013 through 2023, making it possible to follow the initiative's development and reported results.

Funding and partnerships

The program has received support from Fundació Bancària "La Caixa," Fundació Roviralta, and Fundación Antoni Serra Santamans, among others.

Approach

Fundsocial distinguishes between young people who are not seeking work or training because of discouragement and a lack of opportunities, and those who have become disconnected from the system for other reasons. The foundation says the EU Youth Guarantee has limited reach and methods that are not well suited to engaging the latter group, and that its own program is intended to address this gap.
