GuifiBaix.coop

Community-run telecommunications

GuifiBaix.coop is a telecommunications cooperative working to give residents of Baix Llobregat an alternative to large telecom companies. Its main work is connecting buildings to the Guifi.net community network and providing internet and phone services over that infrastructure.

Services

• Internet and phone service through the Guifi.net network
• Connecting buildings to the community network
• Additional services built on Guifi.net

A cooperative network

The cooperative describes its model through three principles: social, economic, and open. Socially, it aims to offer an alternative to the concentration of large telecommunications companies and create a fairer environment for workers and users. Economically, its goal is to cover costs rather than maximize profits. If costs go down, surpluses are reinvested in service improvements or reflected in member fees. The network is based on open standards, and users own their equipment; anyone can install or maintain their part of the network or find someone else to do it.

Local collaboration

GuifiBaix works with local organizations as part of the social economy.
