The Long Walk Gran Canaria

An annual 75-kilometer charity walk across Gran Canaria, from Telde to Puerto de Mogán, with shorter participation options.

About The Long Walk Gran Canaria

A three-day charity walk across Gran Canaria

The Long Walk Gran Canaria is an annual coast-to-coast charity walk from Telde to Puerto de Mogán. Its 75-kilometer route is divided across three days. The event has run since 2012 and, according to its organizers, has raised more than €100,000 for local causes. The 2026 edition is scheduled for October 16–18.

Route and stages

The walk crosses San Mateo, Pico de Las Nieves—at 1,946 meters, Gran Canaria's highest point—Chira, Soria, and rugged parts of the island's interior. The stages are:

  • Day 1, October 16: Barranco de Telde to San Mateo, 20 kilometers with 900 meters of ascent.
  • Day 2, October 17: San Mateo to Chira, 25 kilometers with 1,000 meters of climbing and 1,000 meters of descent, crossing Pico de Las Nieves.
  • Day 3, October 18: Chira to Puerto de Mogán, 30 kilometers with 900 meters of descent.

Ways to take part and listed prices

Alongside the full three-day walk, the event offers shorter options:

  • Day Tripper, one day: €50.
  • Weekender, two days: €150.
  • The Long Walk, three days: €250.
  • The Last Leg: A half-day on October 18, covering 20 kilometers from Soria to the sea, €25.
  • The Last Mile: 1.6 kilometers from Lomo Quiebre to Puerto de Mogán, €12, including a T-shirt.

The registration fee is not a donation. It covers insurance, event organization, support staff, a support vehicle, and lodging. Participants can raise additional donations through a personal page on the event website; the organizers say all public donations go to the supported charities.

Key dates and logistics

Registration opens May 1 and closes October 1, with one-day registrations accepted through October 4. The organizers recommend signing up and paying by September 9 to leave at least three weeks for fundraising. Monthly training walks are held from May 16 through October 3, and first-time participants are asked to attend at least two half-day training sessions. The event ends with a group photo at sunset in Puerto de Mogán on October 18.
