About The Power Ups - Learning
Training for video game developers
The Power Ups - Learning is an online training platform focused on video game development. It combines courses, a technical blog, and free materials for programmers who want to improve code quality and organize projects more effectively. The platform was created by Daniel Parra, a developer who says he has worked in the industry since 2011.
Courses and resources
The platform offers two main courses:
- SOLID principles and clean code.
- Design patterns for video games.
It also publishes a quick guide to design patterns and a free introductory ebook on SOLID principles. Blog topics include design patterns such as State, Command, and Decorator; Unity Addressables; Assembly Definitions; refactoring; and clean-architecture practices.
About the founder
Daniel Parra has worked in the video game industry since 2011. He has developed games for Wii, PS4, Steam, and mobile devices (iOS and Android), using both proprietary engines and Unity and Unreal. The training grew out of recurring problems he saw in projects, including poor organization, hard-to-maintain code, unnecessary complexity, and bad practices.
Videos and community
The Power Ups - Learning is on YouTube, where it posts short videos addressing specific problems, and on Twitch, where it streams the development of a game from scratch. It also has Discord and Facebook communities.
