About Institut Català de la Salut - Camp de Tarragona

Integrated public health care in Camp de Tarragona

The Institut Català de la Salut (ICS) Camp de Tarragona is a major provider of public health care in the Camp de Tarragona region. Its organization brings primary care and hospital services together within one regional system.

Hospitals and local health centers

The territorial health service covers Tarragonès, Baix Camp, Priorat, Alt Camp, and Conca de Barberà. Its network includes Joan XXIII University Hospital in Tarragona, along with primary care centers and clinics throughout the five counties.

Care, education, and research

Services include hospital care at Joan XXIII and primary and community care across the region. The ICS also supports specialized medical education and residency programs in both primary and hospital care. Its clinical and research resources include the USR IDIAP Jordi Gol in primary care, the IISPV at Joan XXIII University Hospital, and the Joan XXIII Hospital Foundation's Clinical Simulation Unit.

Programs for patients and the public include health social work, volunteer services, advance directives, and second medical opinions.

A changing health system

Joan XXIII University Hospital is undergoing clinical and organizational changes as a new hospital is built. Primary and community care services are also adapting to a population with increasingly diverse, older, and more complex needs.
