Preserving Tarazona’s historic and artistic heritage

Fundación Tarazona Monumental works to preserve, restore, and share the historic and artistic heritage of Tarazona, in Zaragoza province, Aragón. Its work combines direct conservation of cultural property with tourism promotion and public cultural programming.

The foundation is sponsored by the Cathedral Chapter of Tarazona, the Diocese of Tarazona, Tarazona City Council, the Zaragoza Provincial Council, and the Government of Aragón.

Areas of work

  • Restoration and conservation: Work on movable and immovable parts of the local heritage. For nearly 20 years, the foundation has run summer hands-on training programs in the restoration of movable cultural property with the Universitat Politècnica de València and Aragón’s Higher School of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property.
  • Heritage management: Administration and interpretation of Tarazona’s historic monuments and buildings.
  • Heritage education: Programs and lesson materials for schools and the general public.
  • Tourism promotion: Promotion of Tarazona and its surrounding region.
  • Training: Employment courses and workshops related to heritage.

Tourism and visits

The foundation organizes and sells guided visits, themed walking routes around the city, and nature routes in the Moncayo area, including hiking and mountain biking. It offers online ticket sales and services for groups, schools, travel agencies, and families. Visitors can also take a virtual 360-degree tour.

Cultural program

The foundation maintains a regular schedule of activities, visits, and concerts, as well as temporary and permanent exhibitions. Programs include a gallery space for artists from Aragón and family activities for children focused on local celebrations such as San Atilano, Cipotegato, and the Giants and Bigheads.

Publications

The foundation publishes guides, catalogs, and studies about cultural heritage, historic urban development, local history, intangible heritage, and the natural heritage of Tarazona and the Moncayo region.

Friends program

The foundation’s Club de Amigos membership program invites individuals to support the conservation of Tarazona’s heritage.
