About Fusteria Sa Serradora
A Sineu workshop with roots in 1910
Fusteria Sa Serradora is a traditional woodworking shop in Sineu, Mallorca. Its history dates to 1910, when the father of one of today’s owners made farm equipment such as carts, mowing machines, and soil breakers. The business later became a sawmill and made wooden crates for transporting food, until plastic sharply reduced demand. It then shifted toward fence gates and other wooden goods.
Traditional Mallorcan woodwork
Today, owners Pep Ferriol Serra and Jordi Ramis Munar carry on the trade with a range centered on traditional Mallorcan woodworking. Projects include:
- Mallorcan and Menorcan gates for enclosures and gardens.
- Tables made from holm oak, American oak, olive wood, and iroko.
- Benches, chairs, and stools, including a traditional butcher’s bench made from wild olive wood.
- Holm-oak doors and wrought-iron doors.
- Reclining sun loungers made from wild olive wood.
- Railings and balustrades made from wild olive wood.
- Animal feeders.
- Sliding gates.
Working with wild olive wood
The process begins in the woods, where the team selects wild olive wood. They choose shoots from each plant and set aside the poles for future projects. The wood then dries in storage for about a year before it is worked.
