Farmer-Owned Dairy Cooperative

Central Lechera Asturiana SAT is an agricultural transformation society owned entirely by livestock farmers. It focuses on dairy production and provides services and products to member farms, with the stated goal of sustaining family farms and helping prevent rural depopulation in Asturias.

Business Group and Subsidiaries

The cooperative conducts much of its business through a group of affiliated companies:

• Corporación Alimentaria Peñasanta, S.A. (CAPSA FOOD): Its brands include Central Lechera Asturiana, Larsa, ATO, 39ytu, Vega de Oro, Asana, and Innova Food Ingredients. It is a leading company in Spain's dairy market, with six production centers in four autonomous communities, more than 1,100 direct employees, and a presence in over 40 countries. In 2020, it became the first Spanish dairy company to earn B Corp certification.
• Sociedad Asturiana de Servicios Agropecuarios, S.L. (A.S.A.): Founded in 1997 by Central Lechera Asturiana SAT and other Asturian cooperatives to integrate and expand feed production for member farmers and provide services and supplies to their farms. Central Lechera Asturiana SAT owns 51% of the company, CAPSA Food 44%, and Cooperativa Agropecuaria de Gozón, S.Coop. 5%.
• BIOGASTUR: Based in Armental, Navia, this company pioneered a circular-economy model in Spain for managing cattle slurry and agri-food waste by converting it to biogas, recovering energy, and producing organic fertilizer. Central Lechera Asturiana SAT owns 100% of the company.
• Aseagro–Serconsulting: A group of companies providing business consulting to the agri-food sector, including tax, employment, legal, Common Agricultural Policy, technical, consulting, and documentation support. Central Lechera Asturiana SAT owns a 50% stake.
• CLAS Gestión: Wholly owned by Central Lechera Asturiana SAT, it offers CLAS Correduría de Seguros, an insurance brokerage service with coverage from major insurance companies.

Financial Scale

According to information published by the cooperative, the Central Lechera Asturiana Group has more than €1 billion in sales and EBITDA of €65.9 million. The cooperative's members approved its 2024 accounts at the annual meeting.

Services and Programs for Members

The cooperative offers its farmers advisory and supply services through its affiliated companies, as well as an education scholarship program for members' children intended to support professional development on family farms. It runs the Garantía Ganadera program and publishes its own magazine, El Correo, along with annual reports and information for farmers.
